The Institute for Experimental Pathology at Keldur, University of Iceland is a university institution affiliated with the Medical Faculty of the University of Iceland.

The main objectives of the Institute are as follows:

- Basic research in biology and medicine of animals and humans.

- Applied veterinary research, health control, diagnostic services and expert advice on animal diseases in collaboration with the Chief Veterinary Officer and development of methodology in these fields.

- To develop, produce, import and distribute veterinary vaccines and drugs for animal diseases.

- To provide research facilities for academic staff of the University, who have been appointed to carry out teaching and research in fields related to the activities of the Institute.

- To provide the continuing education and information for veterinarians in collaboration with the Chief Veterinary Officer.

- To provide laboratory animals for research in Iceland.

- To engage in research and development to benefit the biotechnical industry in Iceland.

The Institute for Experimental Pathology seeks to fulfill the manifold duties with which it is entrusted.

Activities are quite diverse, and in its basic and service research the methodologies of many disiplines are utilized, i.e., pathology, microbiology, immunology, parasitology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

The predominant aspects of the activities of the Institute are basic and service research in veterinary medicine.
